Giving Back this Holiday Season

Mid-December means we are in the thick of the holiday season with to-do lists that don’t seem to end. While the holiday season can be overwhelming one of the best and most important parts is giving back. And although this year looks a little different, there are still ways we can get involved and help others in our community. Here are a few ways you can give back this holiday season.

Santa Cruz Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz has a few ways you can donate your time this holiday season including helping organize and deliver gifts for their adopt-a-family event to writing cards to isolated senior citizens. You can see the other ways to volunteer or sign up here.

Another way to get involved, especially if you’re short on time, is with a monetary gift. There are a significant number of deserving nonprofits to support especially after a year like 2020. You can browse and learn about local nonprofits here. Santa Cruz Gives is also a great place to learn about other local organizations and you can easily donate to more than one on their site. Some of the nonprofits they support include the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter, the Homeless Garden Project, Jacob’s Heart, Save Our Shores, and Teen Kitchen Project.

Meals on Wheels

Community Bridges in Aptos runs the local Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels is an important, nationwide program for seniors that ensures they receive healthy meals and socialization. Community Bridges is a non-profit dedicated to making sure everyone in our community has access to essential services and resources. If you choose to volunteer with Meals on Wheels you will get to help deliver meals to isolated seniors in our community and give them needed human contact. You can learn more about volunteering here.

To sum up, even though our year has been different, we can still make a difference! Do you know of other ways to give back to our community this holiday season? Leave a comment below and let me know!
